Man Arrested with Drugs While Smuggling from Jaigaon to Bhutan
Jaigaon, 9 January 2026:
In yet another case of drug smuggling along the India–Bhutan border, the 53rd Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) achieved a major success by arresting a man with a large quantity of banned drugs on Friday evening.
Acting on specific intelligence input, personnel of BOP Khokla under the 53rd Bn SSB, Simlabari/Falakata, conducted a special naka (checkpoint) operation at around 8 pm near Border Pillar No. 73/2, approximately 1.73 km from the International Border at the Basra river bank. During the operation, one person was detained while attempting to smuggle drugs from India into Bhutan.
Upon search, the SSB recovered 460 Tramadol capsules (blue in colour, suspended form) along with one Pulsar motorcycle used for transportation. The accused has been identified as Raj Biswa, aged 38, a resident of Dalsinghpara, Jaigaon.
Following the seizure, the recovered drugs and the accused were handed over to Jaigaon Police for further investigation and legal action.
Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to intensifying surveillance and border checks to curb drug trafficking and other illegal activities along the sensitive Indo-Bhutan border region.
