Tomichu Bailey Bridge Successfully Launched in Chhukha Dzongkhag

Phuentsholing:

The Regional Office of the Department of Surface Transport (DoST), Phuentsholing, has successfully completed the launching of the Tomichu Bailey Bridge along the Doongna Dzongkhag Road under Chhukha Dzongkhag.

The earlier bridge at the same location was washed away on 5 October 2025 following severe flooding of the Tomichu River, disrupting road connectivity for local residents and commuters. To restore traffic movement in the interim, the Regional Office had constructed a temporary log bridge near the site. However, due to its limited span and clearance, the temporary structure was not considered safe to withstand the upcoming monsoon season.

In the interest of public safety and to provide a long-term solution, the Regional Office, with guidance and support from the Bridge Division and the Department, undertook the urgent launching of a Bailey Bridge using the existing intact abutments. Given the emergency nature of the work, the project was executed departmentally through the deployment of skilled engineers from the Regional Office, along with engaged laborers and necessary machinery.

According to the Regional Office, the entire operation was completed successfully without any injury-related incidents. The office expressed gratitude to the Almighty and extended sincere appreciation to all guidance providers, particularly officials from the Bridge Division and the Department, for their support throughout the process.

The Regional Office also acknowledged the efforts of all staff and laborers who were directly or indirectly involved in the bridge construction and expressed hope for continued cooperation in future infrastructure works.

With the bridge now operational, commuters can expect safer and smoother travel along the route. The Regional Office has apologized for any inconvenience faced during the period when the bridge was unavailable and wished all road users a safe journey over the newly launched Tomichu Bailey Bridge.
