Two Elephants Found Dead in Jigmeling, Suspected Electrocution From Snapped Power Line

Jigmeling, Sarpang | Thursday Two elephants, a male and a female, were found dead early this morning in Jigmeling, raising concerns over wildlife safety near power infrastructure.

Authorities suspect the animals died after coming into contact with a high-voltage electric line. According to local sources, the incident likely occurred around 1 AM, when several villagers reported a sudden power outage.

Gewog officials rushed to the site and discovered the elephants lying near an electric pole with a visibly snapped wire hanging close to the ground. Initial findings suggest the broken line may have delivered a fatal electric shock to the animals.

A joint investigation is underway to determine what caused the wire to snap and whether weather conditions or external interference played a role. Officials say further assessments will be conducted to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Forest and power authorities are also coordinating to ensure public safety and mitigate risks to wildlife in the area.
