Thimphu, Bhutan — TikToker Dorji Tshomo has been sentenced to two years and eight months in prison by the Thimphu District Court after being convicted of battery and assault during the Moenlam Chenmo religious event held in June 2025.
According to court records and the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP), the incident occurred when His Holiness the Je Khenpo was giving blessings to security personnel and members of the RAPA. Dorji Tshomo reportedly rushed forward to receive blessings despite being stopped by police personnel and a Desuup. In the process, she allegedly used force and assaulted them.
A police official stated, “She went wild when the police and Desuup tried to stop her from heading towards the Je Khenpo’s chamber.”
Dorji Tshomo was immediately arrested at the scene and later released on bail, but she was formally charged. Given her history of prior offenses, police forwarded the case to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) seeking more serious legal action. The court, taking her past conduct into account, declined to impose a Thrimthue (monetary penalty) and instead handed down a custodial sentence. Ad1
The court also rejected her defense of mental illness, ruling that she was legally competent at the time of the offense.
Meanwhile, Dorji Tshomo’s legal troubles may continue. The RBP confirmed that there is another ongoing case against her related to an alleged assault on a toilet staff member during the Global Peace Prayer Festival (GPPF). She was arrested during that incident as well and later released on bail, but police have already filed charges. Authorities indicated that she is likely to be formally prosecuted in that case as well. Ad2
TikToker Dorji Tshomo is a controversial social media personality known for frequent online altercations and openly racist remarks targeting various communities in Bhutan. She has also been described by authorities as a disruptive presence at major public events.
While her family members have previously stated that she is not mentally stable and urged the public to ignore her, officials and observers note that continued online engagement and financial support from followers may have enabled her repeated misconduct.
With multiple cases on record and another prosecution pending, authorities say the law will continue to take its course. Ad3
