Massive Fire Breaks Out at Lama Chowpathy in Jaigaon, Grocery Shop Gutted, Losses Estimated at Around ₹20 Lakh
A major fire broke out on Thursday morning at Lama Chowpathy area near Guabari under Jaigaon Police Station limits. In the incident, a grocery shop was completely gutted, causing losses worth several lakhs of rupees to the shop owner.
According to reports, the fire suddenly erupted at around 4:20 AM in a grocery shop located at Lama Chowpathy. Within minutes, the flames spread rapidly, creating panic in the entire area. Local residents immediately tried to control the fire, but eyewitnesses said the flames intensified despite efforts to douse them with water.
After receiving information about the incident, fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot. Following strenuous efforts, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by around 5:00 AM and prevented it from spreading to nearby areas.
The affected shop owner, Jitendra Saha, said that goods worth nearly ₹20 lakh stored inside the shop were completely destroyed in the fire. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation is currently underway.
It may be recalled that a few months ago, another fire incident had occurred in the same area, where a Maruti van and a house were completely destroyed after a fire broke out during the handling of petrol.
