Truck Overturns While Trying to Save Bison on Asian Highway in Alipurduar
A truck overturned on the roadside after the driver attempted to save a bison that suddenly appeared on the Asian Highway in the Madarihat-Holong area of Alipurduar district.
According to reports, the truck was travelling from Guwahati to Kolkata. After crossing the Torsa Bridge, the driver noticed a bison emerging from the Jaldapara forest onto the highway. In an effort to avoid hitting the animal, the driver lost control, causing the truck to overturn beside the road.
The truck was badly damaged in the accident, and both the driver and the helper sustained injuries. However, the bison escaped unharmed.
Local environmentalist Supen Das stated that regular clearing of roadside bushes and small forest growth along the highway passing through Jaldapara National Park could help prevent such accidents in the future.
