Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Begins Two-Day Visit to Bhutan
Thimphu, November 11, 2025: The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, arrived in Bhutan today on a two-day official visit, marking yet another chapter in the enduring friendship and close partnership between the two Himalayan neighbours.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will join the celebrations commemorating the 70th birth anniversary of His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, whose visionary leadership laid the foundation for Bhutan’s modern development and the philosophy of Gross National Happiness.
A key highlight of the visit coincides with the exposition of the Sacred Piprahwa Relics of Lord Buddha, which have been brought from India for public veneration. The exposition symbolizes the deep spiritual and cultural ties between the peoples of India and Bhutan, bound by the shared heritage of Buddhism.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to offer prayers to the Holy Relics at Tashichhodzong in Thimphu, a moment that underscores the spiritual harmony and mutual respect between the two nations.
In addition, the Indian Prime Minister will participate in the Global Peace Prayer Festival, organized by the Government of Bhutan, where thousands of monks, devotees, and international guests have gathered to promote peace, compassion, and unity.
This visit further strengthens the historic relationship between India and Bhutan, reaffirming India’s unwavering support for Bhutan’s developmental aspirations and the two countries’ shared vision of regional stability, prosperity, and cultural preservation.
