Global Peace Prayer Festival Concludes in Thimphu with Royal Presence
Thimphu, November 10:
The week-long Global Peace Prayer Festival concluded today at Changlimithang in a ceremony graced by His Majesty The King, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen, and members of the Royal Family.
The grand concluding ceremony marked the culmination of a week of profound spiritual observances that transformed the Bhutanese capital into a sanctuary of peace, devotion, and unity.
Envisioned by His Majesty The King, the festival began on November 4 and brought together over 150 eminent Buddhist masters, lamas, and scholars from around the world. Tens of thousands of devotees — both Bhutanese and international — gathered in Thimphu to participate in collective prayers dedicated to global peace, compassion, and healing.
On Sunday, Their Majesties offered prayers at Kuenselphodrang, where the Central Monastic Body has been conducting the Jabzhi Gyap rituals for peace and prosperity throughout the week.
The closing ceremony featured peace recitations by the Mahasangha of Bangladesh and Thailand, followed by auspicious concluding prayers by Vajrayana masters, symbolizing the harmony of global Buddhist traditions.
Tomorrow, November 11, holds special significance as it coincides with His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo’s 70th Birth Anniversary and the Descending Day of Lord Buddha, marking an especially auspicious occasion for the Bhutanese people.
