Preparations in Full Swing for Chhath Puja in Birpara: 800 Ghats Being Built, Security Tightened

Birpara, October 24, Friday : With just a few days left for the grand festival of faith and devotion — Chhath Puja — preparations are in full swing in Birpara, under Madarihat Block of Alipurduar district. The celebrations are scheduled to take place on October 26 and 27, and the construction of ghats along the Gergenda River is progressing rapidly.

According to Vijay Kumar Singh, Chairman of the Chhath Puja Committee, around 800 ghats are being constructed this year to accommodate thousands of devotees. The festivities will also include a fair, Ganga Aarti, cultural programmes featuring artists from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand, as well as a community feast (Bhandara). Singh added that special attention is being given to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the devotees or the general public.

On Friday afternoon, local MLA Manoj Tigga visited the ghats to review the ongoing preparations. Expressing satisfaction, he said, “Like every year, we hope this year’s celebration will also be organized beautifully and peacefully.”

To ensure the safety of devotees, Alipurduar Superintendent of Police (SP) Y Raghuvanshi inspected the ghats and reviewed the overall security arrangements, accompanied by Birpara Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nayan Das. Police sources said that strict security measures have been implemented to manage the large crowds and prevent any untoward incidents during the celebrations.

The administration and the Puja Committee are working hand in hand to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of this grand festival dedicated to Surya Dev (Sun God). The final phase of ghat construction is progressing at a brisk pace.
