WWF-Bhutan Conducts Training on Conservation Standards
Planning Process
Paro, October 24, 2025 — WWF-Bhutan successfully
conducted a week-long training on the Conservation Standards Planning
Process from 20–24 October 2025 in Paro. The program brought
together 19 officials from the Department of Forests and Park Services
(DoFPS) to enhance their skills in strategic conservation planning and
adaptive management.
The training was facilitated by John Morrison,
Director of Conservation Planning and Measures at WWF US and Global
Coordinator of the Conservation Coaches Network (CCNet). Participants
were introduced to internationally recognized frameworks and tools for
designing and managing effective conservation projects.
Through interactive sessions and group exercises,
participants strengthened their competencies in strategic planning, project
design, adaptive management, and stakeholder engagement.
By the end of the workshop, participants were equipped to:
- Develop
strategic and area management plans for conservation programs
- Design
and implement robust conservation projects
- Conduct
situational analyses and develop comprehensive Theory of Change
frameworks
- Strengthen
adaptive management and monitoring practices
Reflecting on the experience, participant Sonam Dema
shared,
“The introduction to Conservation Standards was eye-opening
– it helps us apply our learning to real project development and strengthens
our capacity to think strategically.”
The training marks a significant step in building national
capacity for effective conservation planning, reinforcing Bhutan’s commitment
to sustainable environmental management and biodiversity protection.
