Forest Fire Damages Over 100 Acres in Wangdue Phodrang, Spreads Toward Lophokha
A forest fire has destroyed more than 100 acres of land in Athang Gewog, with firefighting teams facing major challenges due to strong winds and difficult terrain.
The fire first broke out on Tuesday above the Athang Gewog Centre and was initially contained. However, it reignited on Wednesday and was once again brought under control before flaring up for a second time. Authorities report that the fire is now advancing toward Lophokha village, raising concerns among nearby communities.
Firefighters on the ground are struggling to contain the blaze as rugged terrain, falling boulders, and limited access routes continue to hamper operations. Despite the scale of the fire, no casualties or damage to property have been reported so far.
Officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire. Efforts are ongoing to bring the situation under full control and prevent further spread in the affected areas of Wangdue Phodrang.
