Thimphu Open Table Tennis Championship 2026 Concludes on a High Note
Thimphu, February 10: The Thimphu Open Table Tennis Championship 2026 wrapped up successfully after four days of exciting matches, camaraderie, and celebration. Held from February 7 to 10, the tournament was organized by the Bhutan Table Tennis Federation and brought together athletes from across the country for a spirited display of skill and sportsmanship.The championship featured five competitive events: Veteran Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Singles, Para Singles, and Lucky Doubles. Each category witnessed intense rallies and close contests, keeping spectators engaged throughout the tournament.
A major highlight of this year’s championship was the presence of two distinguished guests from Japan: a Para Table Tennis coach who also serves as the Vice President of the Japan–Bhutan Friendship Association, and a World No. 2 Para athlete in Class 7. Their participation and interaction with players added a special dimension to the event, offering inspiration and valuable exposure to local athletes.
The championship was particularly significant as it marked the celebration of 40 years of enduring Bhutan–Japan friendship. The spirit of unity and mutual respect was evident throughout the event, with table tennis serving as a bridge between the two nations.
The Bhutan Table Tennis Federation expressed sincere gratitude to the Bhutan Olympic Committee for its continued guidance and steadfast support. Appreciation was also extended to all participating athletes, the Japanese delegation, former national players for their encouragement, and Muklai Kitchen for sponsoring refreshments for officials.
