Malda Police Achieve Major Success in Two Separate Operations, Large Cache of Firearms Seized

Malda district police achieved a major breakthrough in two separate operations, recovering a large quantity of illegal firearms and ammunition in a single night. A total of 10 pipe guns, 5 seven-mm firearms, and 25 rounds of cartridges were seized. Police suspect that the weapons were brought from Bihar with the intention of being sold illegally.

Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Englishbazar Police Station arrested a 20-year-old man, Mainul Hasan, from the Milki area. From his possession, police recovered 10 pipe guns, one seven-mm firearm, and five rounds of ammunition. According to police, Mainul was transporting the weapons for the purpose of selling them when he was intercepted and arrested.

In another operation carried out the same night, Kaliachak Police Station personnel arrested a 45-year-old man, Anarul Haque, from the Sujapur area. Police recovered four seven-mm firearms and 20 rounds of ammunition from him.

Police sources stated that Mainul Hasan is a resident of Mirzatpur in Lalgola, Murshidabad district, while Anarul Haque hails from Golapganj in Malda district. Preliminary investigation suggests that all the seized firearms were sourced from Bihar.

Further investigation is underway to identify other individuals involved in the arms trafficking network.
