Woman Trampled to Death by Elephant in Ramjhora Tea Garden
A tragic incident of human–elephant conflict has once again come to light from the tea belt of the Dooars. A woman was killed after being attacked by a wild elephant on Monday night in the Ramjhora Tea Garden area under the Madarihat–Birpara Block of Alipurduar district.
According to local sources, a herd of elephants entered the locality late at night, prompting residents to rush out of their homes. During the commotion, a woman identified as Bolo Jha stepped out of her house. In a sudden attack, an elephant charged toward her and violently struck her near the entrance of her home, resulting in her death on the spot.
Forest department officials and police personnel from Birpara Police Station soon reached the scene and recovered the body. Authorities confirmed that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
The incident has triggered tension and fear among residents of the tea garden area, who remain vulnerable to frequent elephant incursions.
