Over 85,000 Attend Global Peace Prayer Festival in Thimphu
Thimphu, November 8, 2025:
An unprecedented number of devotees—estimated at over 85,000—gathered in and around Changlimithang today for the Global Peace Prayer Festival. People began arriving as early as midnight, and by the time the prayers commenced, both the Changlimithang Stadium and Centenary Park were filled with devotees united in prayer for global peace and harmony.
Their Majesties The King and The Gyaltsuen, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, and Members of the Royal Family graced the ceremony, continuing their presence at the festival since its commencement on November 4.
The Global Peace Prayer Festival is the largest non-sectarian Vajrayana Buddhist prayer gathering, representing all sects of Vajrayana Buddhism as well as other Buddhist traditions. Today’s prayers were led by the masters of the Nyingma Choedey of Bhutan.
Meanwhile, the Central Monastic Body is conducting Jabzhi Dhoechog at Kuenselphodrang as part of the festival, dedicating the rituals to global peace and the wellbeing of all sentient beings.
The festival will conclude on November 10, followed by the Kalachakra empowerment to be bestowed by His Holiness the Je Khenpo from November 12 to 14.
