Bridge Connecting Ambari–Kherbari Collapses Under the Weight of an Overloaded Dumper
The Ambari–Kherbari (Debgram) connecting bridge over the Mora Raidhak River in West Bengal State of Coochbehar District, Tufanganj Block-II collapsed suddenly after an overloaded dumper truck crossed it. The bridge, named after artiste Tagar Adhikari, gave way under the excessive load, causing panic among local residents and disrupting a vital road link.
Residents alleged that overloaded dumpers and heavy vehicles had been using the bridge for a long time despite repeated warnings. With no improvement in the situation, the structure eventually weakened and collapsed.
Following the incident, people from Ambari, Kherbari, and Debgram are facing severe inconvenience due to the disruption of daily commute and essential services. Locals have demanded the immediate introduction of an alternative route.
According to administrative sources, necessary steps are being initiated to repair the damaged bridge at the earliest.
