Bhutan Receives Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha from India at Tashichhodzong

Thimphu, November 8:
In a ceremony of profound spiritual and cultural significance, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, accompanied by members of the Zhung Dratshang, representatives from His Majesty’s Secretariat, and senior government officials, received the Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha from India at Tashichhodzong today.

The Relics, known as the Piprahwa–Kapilavastu Relics, are among the most revered objects in the global Buddhist tradition, symbolizing a direct and tangible link to Lord Buddha’s physical presence and blessings. Their arrival marks a historic and deeply meaningful moment for Bhutan’s Buddhist community.

Upon arrival, the Sacred Relics were received in a Chipdrel procession and accorded a Guard of Honour by the armed forces in the Kuenrey courtyard of Tashichhodzong, reflecting the deep reverence and respect accorded to them.

The Relics will be enshrined at the Grand Kuenrey of Tashichhodzong from November 12 to 17, 2025, allowing devotees and the public to pay their respects. The display and veneration of the Sacred Relics are part of the national celebrations commemorating the 70th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

The event stands as a testament to the enduring spiritual and cultural ties between Bhutan and India and underscores the shared Buddhist heritage that continues to unite the two nations.
