Sikkim’s 89-Member Contingent Departs for 4th National EMRS Sports Meet in Odisha
Gangtok, November 8:
An 89-member sports contingent from four Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) of Sikkim departed for Rourkela, Odisha, to participate in the 4th National EMRS Sports Meet, scheduled to be held from November 11 to 14, 2025.
The state team underwent an intensive weeklong training camp at Paljor Stadium, Reshithang Khel Gaon, Gangyap EMRS, and Suntoley EMRS in preparation for the event. Sikkim will compete in Football, Basketball, Athletics, Boxing, Chess, Table Tennis, and Yoga in both boys’ and girls’ categories.
The contingent is led by Shri Sonam Gurung, OS, as Contingent Manager, and accompanied by 10 escort teachers and staff from the Tribal Affairs Division of the Social Welfare Department.
The team was formally flagged off from SNT, Gangtok, by Shri Suman Gurung, Special Secretary, Social Welfare Department, and Shri Prem Kamal Rai, Joint Secretary-cum-State Nodal Officer, EMRS Sikkim.
The Social Welfare Department extended best wishes to the young athletes for a successful and inspiring performance at the national event.
