Thimphu District Court Sentences Man to Life Imprisonment for Murder of 25-Year-Old Woman
Thimphu, October 30, 2025 — The Thimphu District Court has sentenced 29-year-old Lekden D. Dorji to life imprisonment for the murder of a 25-year-old woman in Changangkha last year.
According to the judgment issued yesterday, the convict lured and forcibly took the intoxicated victim to the Changangkha area, where he attempted to rape and brutally assaulted her, resulting in her death.
The court rejected his plea of mental incompetence, ruling that despite his borderline intelligence and autism-related limitations, Lekden D. Dorji was mentally sound and fully aware of his actions.
The judgment further stated that the deliberate nature of the crime was evident from his calculated efforts to conceal the incident, demonstrating clear intent and awareness of wrongdoing.
With this ruling, the court reaffirmed that individuals with cognitive limitations are still accountable under the law when their actions show premeditation and criminal intent.
