Smuggling Bhutan Liquor Seized in Jaigaon; Driver Escapes
The operation was launched following a tip-off received
around 6:30 a.m. Acting swiftly, jaigaon excise surveillance team was
deployed at Daragaon, near the Jaigaon Excise Station. Around 7:00 a.m., the
suspected vehicle was spotted. However, due to traffic congestion, the driver
abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene despite efforts by the police to
apprehend him.
The team later secured the vehicle and brought it to the
Excise Station to prevent further traffic disruption. Upon inspection,
officials recovered:
60 bottles of NDPFL (Black Mountain Whisky) — each
750 ml, totaling 45 liters,
One vehicle, and One voter identity card
believed to belong to the suspect.
Both the vehicle and the liquor have been seized. The entire
operation was videographed in compliance with the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha
Sanhita
guidelines.
Authorities estimate the total value of the seized items at ₹9,12,500.
An investigation is underway to trace and arrest the absconding driver involved
in the illegal cross-border smuggling attempt.
