Phuentshogling Court Sentences Indian National to 20 Years for Raping Minor
Phuentshogling, October 27 — The Phuentshogling Dungkhag Court has convicted a 50-year-old Indian man for the rape of a child below 12 years of age and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
According to the judgment, the offence is classified as a first-degree felony under the Penal Code of Bhutan.
The incident took place in September last year in Phuentshogling, where the convict was employed. The victim was 9 years and 10 months old at the time of the incident.
The court also noted that the convict had been in detention for over a year during the investigation and trial process. Consequently, he will now serve the remaining term of nearly 19 years in prison.
The ruling sends a strong message that such grave crimes against children will be met with the full force of the law.
