Two Arrested in Thimphu Counterfeit Indian Currency Case
According to police, the suspects were arrested on May 14 after two separate complaints were reported from Khasadrapchu and the STCBL fuel station. The accused allegedly attempted to use counterfeit Indian currency notes at Khasadrapchu and successfully used fake notes to refuel their vehicle at the fuel station on May 12.
Following CCTV footage analysis and information gathered during the investigation, police arrested both suspects two days later.
During the operation, police seized a total of Rs 17.70 lakh in counterfeit Indian currency, mostly in Rs 500 denominations.
Seizure details include:
Rs 11.80 lakh recovered from the 36-year-old suspect
Rs 5.89 lakh recovered from the 37-year-old suspect
Police said the suspects reportedly confessed to exchanging Rs 1 million for counterfeit currency worth Rs 1.77 million from a border town in India.
The investigation is currently underway.
