Bhutan Celebrates World Health Day 2026 in Trashigang, 73 Health Workers Honoured
World Health Day 2026 was observed in Sheytemi, Merak under Trashigang Dzongkhag with a strong message of unity and science-led healthcare.
The event, held under the theme “Together for Health. Stand with Science,” brought together key dignitaries including the Health Minister as the Guest of Honour, the Opposition Leader, a National Council Member from Trashigang, representatives from World Health Organization, along with officials from government agencies, development partners, health professionals, and local communities.
A total of 73 health workers, including doctors, nurses, technicians, health assistants, and village health workers, were honoured for their dedicated service and contributions to healthcare delivery across the country. The recognition highlighted their efforts in reaching remote communities and providing essential care during critical times.
Addressing the gathering, the Health Minister emphasized that health is not only built in hospitals but also shaped within homes, schools, communities, and daily lifestyle choices.
The celebration also featured non-communicable disease (NCD) screenings, traditional wellness practices such as Sorig-Zhiney and Luejong demonstrations, along with cultural performances, making the event both educational and engaging.
The Ministry of Health extended its appreciation to the Trashigang Dzongkhag Administration and the WHO Bhutan Country Office for their support in successfully organizing the event.
