Two Arrested with 200 Grams of Brown Sugar in Joint Operation in Jaigaon
In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, a joint team of the Alipurduar District Police Special Operation Team and Jaigaon Police Station arrested two individuals with 200 grams of brown sugar on Friday around 10:00 AM.Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted an operation on the national highway between the Excise Office and Gopimohan area under Jaigaon Police Station. The accused were travelling on a scooter when they were intercepted. During the search, officers recovered 200 grams of brown sugar and immediately took both individuals into custody.
The arrested persons have been identified as Kabir Mia, a resident of Cooch Behar district, and Nadim Nadam, a resident of Kaliachak in Malda district. Preliminary investigation suggests that the contraband was brought from outside and was intended for delivery in Jaigaon.
Officer-in-Charge Nayan Das of Jaigaon Police Station stated that the police are working with a zero-tolerance approach against drugs. He warned that anyone involved in drug trafficking will inevitably face legal action. He also urged those engaged in such activities to give up the trade and called upon the public to cooperate in building a drug-free society.
The investigation is continuing.
