Royal Family Joins 16,000 Volunteers as Fifth Zhabtog Programme Concludes in Gelephu Mindfulness City
Gelephu, February 25, 2026: The fifth Voluntary Zhabtog Programme for Gelephu Mindfulness City concluded today after five days of intensive service that began on February 21.
This round carried special significance with the participation of Jigme Singye Wangchuck, along with Members of the Royal Family and Their Majesties Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Jetsun Pema.
Over 16,000 volunteers worked across GMC from 8 am to 5 pm and often beyond, clearing bushes, undergrowth, and invasive species. Key project sites were prepared, and ornamental trees were planted in designated park areas. The activities were carried out in alignment with the GMC Masterplan, with particular focus on enriching elephant habitats to ensure wildlife can coexist sustainably alongside the city’s development.
To mark the conclusion of the programme, His Majesty The King granted tokha to all volunteers this afternoon and expressed appreciation to them and the organising teams for their dedication and support in building Gelephu Mindfulness City.
