Tender Released for Construction of New Teesta Bridge Between Sevoke and Ollenbari

Darjeeling, January 2026 — The process for building a new bridge across the Teesta River, linking Sevoke in Darjeeling district with Ollenbari, has formally moved forward with the issuance of the construction tender. The project is being seen as a major boost to infrastructure development in North Bengal and the surrounding regions.

Welcoming the development, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista termed the project a meaningful New Year’s gift for the region’s residents. He conveyed his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari for facilitating the long-awaited initiative. Ad1

The bridge, estimated to cost ₹1,172.77 crore, is designed as a modern alternative to the historic Coronation Bridge. Once operational, it is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve road connectivity for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Sikkim, Siliguri, the Dooars belt, and the northeastern states.

MP Bista stated that the project reflects the outcome of persistent efforts over the past six years. He emphasized that beyond improving transportation, the bridge is likely to play a key role in accelerating economic growth by supporting trade, tourism, and regional mobility. Ad2
