Forest Fire Damages About 200 Acres in Athang Gewog, Wangdue Phodrang
Wangdue Phodrang:A massive forest fire that broke out yesterday evening in Jarogang–Dzawo Chiwog under Athang Gewog, Wangdue Phodrang, has damaged around 200 acres of forest land.
Despite continuous efforts throughout the day, firefighters were unable to fully contain the blaze. Teams comprising forestry officials, personnel from the Royal Bhutan Police, Royal Bhutan Army, De-suups, PHPA-2 officials, district administration, and local residents were deployed to combat the fire.
Firefighting operations were severely hampered by steep cliffs, rugged terrain, and strong gusting winds, forcing authorities to suspend operations for the day. Officials said the fire is believed to have originated from an area above the PHPA-2 colony at Phetakha. An electrical short circuit is suspected to be the cause, though this has not been confirmed.
Authorities stated that a detailed investigation will be carried out once the fire is fully contained to determine the exact cause. So far, no casualties or damage to private property have been reported.
Firefighting operations are expected to resume tomorrow as authorities continue efforts to bring the situation under control.
