CoochBehar District Police Step Up Anti-Narcotics Operations; Ganja Seized in Two Separate Incidents
Cooch Behar district police have intensified their operations against illegal and anti-social activities across the district, leading to significant seizures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
On the night of December 15, 2025, acting on specific intelligence, the Cooch Behar Kotwali Police Station conducted an operation within its jurisdiction. During the raid, police detained one individual and recovered 39.225 grams of ganja from two plastic packets found in his possession. The accused was arrested, and a case was registered against him under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
In a separate incident on December 16, 2025, the Pundibari Police Station carried out a search operation near the New Cooch Behar Over-Bridge after noticing an abandoned vehicle under suspicious circumstances. Upon thorough inspection, police recovered 21.446 kilograms of ganja from inside the vehicle.
The seizure was conducted in the presence of DSP (Crime) Shri Lobsang Tsering Bhutia and an Executive Magistrate. Subsequently, a case was registered under the NDPS Act against the owner and driver of the vehicle by Pundibari police.
District police officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and continuing strict action against drug trafficking and related criminal activities.
