Two-Day Workshop on Counselling Skills Held to Strengthen Support for CSA Victims

Gangtok | October 31, 2025:

The Women, Child, Senior Citizen & Divyangjan Welfare Department organized a two-day workshop month of October 29 to 30, 2025, in collaboration with ARPAN, a Mumbai based NGO, focusing on “Basic Counselling Techniques – Strengthening Frontline Response for Victims of Child Sexual Abuse.”

ARPAN is an internationally acclaimed, award winning nonprofit committed to ending child sexual abuse in India, working toward its vision of “a world free from child sexual abuse.”

A total of 45 officials from across the state, associated with the Mission Vatsalya Scheme, took part in the workshop. The sessions were led by Manisha Cintury, Joint Secretary, Mission Vatsalya Scheme.  Nishita Shetty and Neha Maru, expert counsellors and trainers from ARPAN, facilitated the sessions as key resource persons.

During the 2 days, participants were trained on several essential subjects such as Psychological First Aid, and Understanding Trauma and Child Neurobiology, Effective Counselling Techniques, and Practical Case Studies with Role-Play Activities. These interactive sessions aimed to equip frontline workers with practical counselling skills and a deeper understanding of the emotional and psychological needs of child survivors of sexual abuse.

The workshop concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and child-friendly environment across the state.
