Leopard Found Dead by Roadside in Bankura, Triggers Sensation in the Area
Bishnupur, Bankura | October 31: A leopard was found dead by the roadside near Pachadahara village under the Bakadah Range of the Panchet Forest Division in Bishnupur, Bankura, late Thursday night, sparking widespread sensation in the area.
According to local residents, they spotted the carcass of the leopard lying beside the Bankadah–Joyrambati road near the forest edge around midnight and immediately informed the forest department. Forest officials rushed to the spot and recovered the carcass, which was later taken to the divisional office.
Forest department sources confirmed that since the death appears to be unnatural, a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause. The area is surrounded by forests such as Kashi Chata and Agun Kumari, where leopards are believed to have established their habitat.
Officials noted that the growing number of leopards in the forests of Bankura reflects a positive sign for wildlife conservation and biodiversity. However, the sudden death of this leopard has raised concern among forest authorities.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the animal might have been hit by a speeding vehicle while attempting to cross the road. A departmental inquiry has already been initiated into the incident.
Meanwhile, wildlife enthusiasts have urged the forest department to identify potential “leopard corridors” in the region and install warning signboards to alert motorists and prevent similar accidents in the future.
Forest officials stated that the cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report is received.
