High-Level HIV Sensitisation Program Champions Inclusive Public Health in Thimphu
Thimphu: A high-level sensitisation program on HIV awareness and inclusion was convened in Thimphu under the SKPA-2 initiative, bringing together key stakeholders from the government, civil society, and law enforcement. The event was jointly organised by Save the Children, the Ministry of Health, RENEW Bhutan, and the Royal Bhutan Police.
The program aimed to enhance understanding of HIV-related issues, promote inclusivity, and uphold the rights and dignity of key populations. Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration across sectors to improve HIV prevention and response mechanisms in Bhutan.
Officials from the National AIDS and STI Control Program (NACP), Ministry of Health, shared insights into Bhutan’s ongoing efforts to combat HIV and outlined strategies for future interventions. Participants also heard first-hand accounts from members of the community, shedding light on the lived experiences and challenges faced by vulnerable groups.
Deliberations on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC) highlighted the need for continued advocacy to eliminate stigma, discrimination, and violence against affected individuals.
Representatives from the Royal Bhutan Police reaffirmed their dedication to supporting inclusive, rights-based public health initiatives. All participating organisations emphasised the importance of unity and compassion in building a society where equitable health services are accessible to all.
The sensitisation program stands as a significant step toward fostering a more inclusive, informed, and empathetic approach to public health in Bhutan.
