Security Tightened Along India–Bhutan Border as West Bengal Prepares for Assembly Polls
With the West Bengal Assembly elections approaching, administrative and security preparations have gathered pace across the state. Although the Election Commission has not yet announced the official poll dates, various pre-election procedures, including the SIR process, are already underway.
In the sensitive India–Bhutan border region, central security forces have begun arriving to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections. On Wednesday, Officer-in-Charge Nayan Das of Jaigaon Police Station conducted an extensive route march along with central forces across different localities, interior lanes, and polling booths in the area.
During the visit, officials interacted with residents and assured them that adequate security arrangements would be in place during the election period. Police and central forces stated they are fully prepared to prevent any untoward incidents.
The presence of security personnel patrolling villages and conducting road marches drew curiosity among locals, with many gathering along the streets to witness the exercise.
Following the inspection of booths and surrounding areas, officials reviewed the security setup and began formulating a detailed plan. Authorities also indicated that any shortcomings identified during the visit would be addressed promptly to ensure smooth conduct of the elections.
