Six Students Honoured with Gyalsey Annual Mathematics Award
The Ministry today honoured six outstanding students for their exceptional performance in the His Royal Highness Gyalsey Annual Mathematics Award, celebrating excellence in mathematical reasoning and logical thinking among young learners.The awards were presented by the Hon’ble Lyonpo along with Dasho Arun Kapur, Director of the Druk Gyalpo’s Institute, at a formal ceremony attended by education officials and guests.
In the Middle Secondary School category for Classes IX and X, Anju Gautam of Phuentsholing Higher Secondary School secured first place. Ausmithata Gurung from Dagapela Middle Secondary School and Sangay Drukdra of Phobjikha Higher Secondary School stood second and third, respectively.
In the Higher Secondary School category for Classes XI and XII, Wangchuk Sonam of Sherubling Higher Secondary School emerged as the winner. Srijan Adhikari from Norbugang Higher Secondary School and Ngawang Pelden of Kunzangling Higher Secondary School secured the second and third positions.
Winners in both categories received merit certificates along with a cash prize of Nu.150,000 each. Second place holders were awarded Nu.100,000, while third place holders received Nu.75,000, along with merit certificates.
The competition, held in November 2025, saw wide participation from schools across the country, with 2,796 students competing in Category 1 and 1,406 students in Category 2.
Instituted in collaboration with the Druk Gyalpo’s Institute, the Gyalsey Annual Mathematics Award aims to recognise and nurture students’ mathematical abilities while encouraging a deeper appreciation of mathematics among students and teachers nationwide.
