Smuggling Attempt Foiled at Indo–Nepal Border
A major silver smuggling attempt was thwarted at the Panitanki area along the Khoribari Indo–Nepal border. Acting on specific intelligence, a joint patrol by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and SSB intercepted a Nepalese woman and recovered four packets of silver from her possession.
The arrested woman has been identified as Devi Kala Khadka, a resident of Jhapa district, Nepal. Around 10 kg of silver, valued at approximately ₹36 lakh, was seized during the operation.
During interrogation, she admitted that the silver was meant to be taken from Bagdogra to Nepal for delivery. The DRI has taken her into custody, and she will be produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Friday.
