Police Achieve Major Success in Drug Seizure Operation in Raiganj
Raiganj Police achieved a significant breakthrough once again in their ongoing campaign against drug trafficking. Acting on a tip-off from confidential sources, police conducted a special operation on Sunday in the Siliguri More area under Raiganj Police Station and seized approximately 400 grams of narcotic substances. One person was arrested in connection with the case.
According to police sources, the operation was carried out following specific intelligence inputs. During the raid, the accused was caught red-handed while allegedly attempting to transfer the narcotics. The incident caused considerable sensation in the surrounding area.
The arrested individual has been identified as Shahin Khan, aged around 45 years, a resident of Shershahi Maheshpur under Kaliachak Police Station in Malda district. Police stated that the accused had reportedly brought the narcotics from Kaliachak in Malda to Raiganj for distribution when he was intercepted by the police team.
Despite repeated incidents of drug seizures in Raiganj raising concerns among local residents, the police have reiterated that strict action is being taken to dismantle drug networks. Authorities emphasized that law enforcement agencies remain fully alert and committed to curbing the menace of drugs.
In addition to enforcement measures, the district administration, police, and various non-governmental organizations are jointly conducting awareness programs to keep the youth away from substance abuse.
Deputy Magistrate and Deputy Collector Debdip Bairagi stated, “The administration has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drugs. Strict legal action will be taken against those involved, and anti-drug operations will be further intensified to ensure a drug-free society.”
The accused will be produced before the Raiganj District Court on Monday. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether more individuals are involved in the drug trafficking network.
