Bhutan Truck Carrying Betel Nuts Seized Near Indo Bhutan Border
Jaigaon, Monday evening: Personnel of BOP Khokla under the 53rd Battalion SSB, Simlabari/Falakata, seized a Bhutan registered truck loaded with betel nuts during a special checking operation on specific intelligence input.
The seizure was made around 7.30 pm near Border Pillar No. 73/3, approximately 10 meters from the Indo Bhutan Border, close to the Pasakha check post. The consignment was allegedly being smuggled from Bhutan into India using fake documents.
During the operation, the SSB team recovered 305 bags of betel nuts, each weighing 40 kg, with a total weight of 12,200 kg. One person was apprehended in connection with the seizure.
The apprehended individual has been identified as Tshering Lama, 26 years old, a resident of Sampleling village in Chukha district, Bhutan.
After completing the necessary formalities, the seized betel nuts along with the apprehended person were handed over to the Customs Office, Jaigaon, for further legal action.
Authorities stated that such operations will continue to curb smuggling activities along the border.
