Their Majesties Honoured with Doctoral Degrees by Chulalongkorn University
Bangkok, December 22, 2025: Chulalongkorn University of Thailand today awarded honorary doctoral degrees to Their Majesties The King and The Gyaltsuen at a formal ceremony held on its Bangkok campus.
His Majesty received an honorary Doctor of Philosophy in International Development Studies in recognition of his far-sighted leadership in advancing peace, inclusive growth, good governance, youth empowerment, and innovative national initiatives. The honour also reflects His Majesty’s contribution to strengthening international cooperation and deepening Bhutan–Thailand relations.
Her Majesty was awarded an honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology and Anthropology for her dedicated service in promoting social welfare, environmental protection, public health and mental well-being, inclusion of persons with disabilities, and the empowerment of grassroots economies.
Founded in 1917, Chulalongkorn University is Thailand’s oldest and most prestigious institution of higher education, widely respected for its academic excellence and its enduring educational partnership with Bhutan.
As part of the visit, Their Majesties took part in the conferment ceremony, engaged in academic and cultural activities, and later visited King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, underscoring the strong ties of friendship and cooperation between Bhutan and Thailand.
