West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in North Bengal Today; Key Review Meeting at Uttarkanya on Flood and Landslide Rehabilitation

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in North Bengal Today; Key Review Meeting at Uttarkanya on Flood and Landslide Rehabilitation

Siliguri, November 10 —

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived in North Bengal today to conduct a high-level review meeting at Uttarkanya, the state’s administrative headquarters in Siliguri. Her visit, coming less than a month after her previous trip, underscores the government’s ongoing focus on providing relief and rehabilitation to those affected by recent floods, landslides, and heavy rainfall in the region.

As per official inputs, the Chief Minister’s agenda includes evaluating the ground situation in the disaster-hit districts and finalizing new rehabilitation and recovery measures. Upon reaching Bagdogra, she is scheduled to proceed directly to Uttarkanya, where she will hold discussions with district magistrates and senior officials from Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Kalimpong.

Tight security arrangements have been put in place for her visit.
Last month’s torrential rains had triggered severe landslides in Darjeeling, Mirik, and nearby regions, causing heavy loss of life and property. Many residents remain missing, and daily life was thrown out of gear. During that time, the Chief Minister had visited the affected areas twice to monitor the relief and rescue operations personally.

During today’s visit, Mamata Banerjee is likely to hand over financial aid to the families who lost members in the disaster. The state government has already arranged temporary shelters, tarpaulins, and community kitchens for displaced families. However, a large number of residents are still without permanent homes, with many losing important personal documents and possessions.

Sources indicate that the Chief Minister will assess the progress of ongoing rehabilitation projects and may announce new long-term initiatives aimed at rebuilding homes and restoring livelihoods across the worst-affected districts.
