One Dead, Eight Missing After Boat Capsizes in Koirala River Near India-Nepal Border
Bahraich, October 29, 2025 — A devastating incident occurred near the India–Nepal border on Wednesday evening when a boat carrying 22 passengers overturned in the Koirala River around 6:45 PM. The mishap was reportedly caused by a strong water current and a collision with a fallen tree.
As soon as the information reached authorities, the 70th Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) promptly initiated a rescue mission. Two rescue boats led by Deputy Commandant Arun Mewara and a Rapid Response Team (RRT) under Inspector Munin Barua rushed to the site and began operations without delay.
So far, 13 people have been rescued, while one woman lost her life, and eight individuals are still unaccounted for. A critically injured woman was taken to the Bahraich District Hospital in an SSB vehicle for medical treatment.
Rescue efforts are continuing in collaboration with SSB personnel, local police, and district authorities, who are working tirelessly to locate the missing and assist affected families.
Officials have confirmed that search and relief operations will continue until every missing person is found, as the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic accident.
