Joint Team Assesses Flood-Affected Bridges, Plans Swift Restoration Measures

🚧 Joint Team Assesses Flood-Affected Bridges, Plans Swift Restoration Measures🌉

A joint team from the Department of Surface Transport, Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, comprising officials from the Bridge Division and the Regional Office, Phuentsholing, visited several bridge sites recently affected by the flood to assess damages and plan immediate restoration works.

The team reviewed the conditions on-site and proposed interventions to restore connectivity at the earliest.

🔹 1. Namchukhola Bailey Bridge – Haa–Samtse SNH
A temporary bypass is being built upstream, where a 30-ft Bailey bridge will be launched to restore immediate connectivity.
For permanent restoration, a new Bailey bridge will be launched on existing abutments, with raised abutment height and river dredging to safeguard against future floods. Bridge components have already been mobilized and will reach the site soon.

🔹 2. Denchukha Bailey Bridge
To ensure immediate access, a temporary Bailey bridge will be launched downstream where the river channel is narrower.
For a long-term solution, a multi-span Bailey bridge will be constructed along the existing alignment with two intermediate piers for improved stability and load capacity.
Additionally, a feasibility study is underway to connect Denchukha Gewog via the Lingden Chiwog Farm Road, including:

  • Construction of a new Peuna River bridge

  • Launching of Pachu (Serena) Bridge superstructure

  • 1 km new formation cutting up to Peuna River

  • Slip clearance and widening of about 2 km of the existing farm road

🔹 3. Jitti B and C Bridges
A detailed survey has been completed, and design of Bailey bridge substructures will follow shortly. Reconstruction will begin soon to restore both bridges at the earliest possible time.

🛠️ These swift and coordinated efforts highlight the government’s strong commitment to restoring vital connectivity, ensuring public safety, and strengthening infrastructure resilience against future natural disasters.
